the fascinating woman in red

This one goes out to all of the b*tches who love being the center of attention. Those that stand out of a crowd. The ones who walk into a room and shut it down. Mostly, this is for my Leos, Geminis, Sagittariuses and fellow Scorpios.

While waiting by the bar at a local D.C. hot spot, one of my friends was approached by a man who expressed that his friend was interested in getting to know the “fascinating woman in red”. We quickly realized that he was referencing me, as I happened to be wearing one of my favorite red fuzzy jackets. This comment made me start to wonder what it is about a person that makes them stand out among a crowd?

For me, fashion is the number one way to make a statement. The “oh shit” moment is something that all designers and fashion oriented humans crave. The moment when you walk into a room and everyone immediately picks apart which pieces of your outfit they can’t stop looking at. Whether that be a cheetah print hair clip, the world’s thickest puffer jacket or rainbow platform sneakers, there are so many aspects of an outfit that can easily become the statement number.

But standing out in a crowd comes from something more than just wearing giant neon earrings shaped like eyes. It’s rooted in inner confidence. For some of us, that shows through in the things we wear. For others, it can be demonstrated through hairstyle, witty commentary or the way you walk. But it all boils down to what is inside of you.

Please excuse my next statement, for it is extremely cliche but could not be more true. Confidence is the sexiest accessory. Not even a blouse with the most dramatic mesh puff shoulder could compare to the statement that being comfortable with yourself makes.

Finding your inner dramatic accessory is not an easy task. Even the most confident diva queen on the planet has had to climb major inner mountains to get to where they are now. So how does one achieve this? I am no expert. But, I can tell you that getting to know yourself is a pretty great first step. Being confident in the body you have becomes a lot easier once you understand what is going on in there.

By no means have I perfected this. As stupid as I think “bikini bodies” are, I can’t lie and say that I don’t find myself hyperaware of what I look like at all times while wearing anything that shows my stomach. I learn about new aspects of myself every day and accept these things (yes, even the bad and annoying ones) as part of what makes me, myself. All the elements of who I am transform into the most glamorous accessories.

Go hang out with yourself today, you’re pretty cool.

xoxo,

lexy
